Cathy Leigh Comer Justice became the first lady of West Virginia when her husband, Governor Jim Justice, was sworn in on Jan. 16, 2017.

Mrs. Justice was born in Beckley and grew up in Prosperity, West Virginia. She graduated from Marshall University with a degree in secondary education. After college, she moved back to Raleigh County, and she and Governor Justice were married.

Mrs. Justice served as president of Comer Electric, Inc., a business started by her family, and she was a member of the board of directors for First National Bank in Ronceverte for five years. She also spent time substitute teaching in Raleigh County schools, and she is involved in a local reading program for elementary school students.

The first lady was active in 4-H growing up and rode horses competitively. Mrs. Justice is involved in the family’s thoroughbred racing operation and several of her horses are currently competing in thoroughbred racing at prominent racetracks across the country.

In 2016, the first lady and Governor Justice celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary. They have two children, Jay Justice and Dr. Jill Justice. The Justices are members of the First Baptist Church in Beckley.
