WASHINGTON —The National Governors Association (NGA) Resource Center for State Cybersecurity announced today that it will help four states—Indiana, North Carolina, West Virginia and Wisconsin—modernize their cybersecurity plans and infrastructure. The new initiative, Policy Academy on Implementing State Cybersecurity, offers states a new opportunity to defend themselves against increasingly advanced and globalized cyber threats.
NGA will provide states with technical assistance to implement and operationalize cybersecurity planning. The Policy Academy will convene NGA, industry experts, federal officials, private sector experts, research organizations, and academia to advise the four state teams, each selected by their governor to develop and share best practices in cybersecurity.
The Policy Academy comes on the heels of former Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe’s Chair’s Initiative, Meet the Threat: States Confront the Cyber Challenge, and builds on the progress made during NGA’s previous cybersecurity Policy Academy, which took place from 2016 to 2017. These activities are all led out of NGA’s Resource Center for State Cybersecurity, established in 2012 and currently co-chaired by Michigan Governor Rick Snyder and Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards.
