The National Governors Association (NGA) today announced that three states, Illinois, Louisiana and Michigan, will receive support to address policy issues that limit the flow of health care data among providers. The project will help states ensure providers have the information they need at the appropriate times to improve patient care and outcomes.
Governors continually seek better outcomes and lower costs by implementing transformative changes in how they pay for and deliver health care. The useful and timely flow of data among providers is critical to the type of transformation focused on outcomes.
The NGA Center for Best Practices will provide technical assistance so the three selected states can develop and carry out action plans focused on one or more specific state policy priorities related to improving the sharing of patient health information, including addressing legal and market-based barriers to information flow.
