WASHINGTON, D.C. – The National Conference of State Legislatures, National Governors Association and Environmental Council of States applaud the collaborative efforts that led to the enactment of the “Frank R. Lautenberg Chemical Safety for the 21st Century Act,” which both reforms and modernizes the 40-year-old Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA). Over the last several years, our organizations have offered input on TSCA reform, stressing the need to strengthen TSCA while still preserving the ability of states to act when chemicals present serious health and safety concerns to our citizens. We look forward to continuing this collaborative dialogue with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and all stakeholders to ensure that this legislation reaches its full potential.
