2024 GHSAC Summer Meeting

The Governors Homeland Security Advisors Council (GHSAC) met August 5-7, 2024, in Monterey, CA for its annual Summer Meeting. The GHSAC regularly brings together Governors’ homeland security advisors to inform and shape national homeland security policy, keep Governors abreast of the current threat environment and the impacts of federal homeland security legislation, regulations, and policies, as well as share and promote best practices related to homeland security activities.

The Summer Meeting this year had more than 50 attendees with homeland security advisors participating from across the nation’s states, territories, and the District of Columbia. Topics discussed during this year’s meeting included cybersecurity, homeland security coordination with health and agriculture, artificial intelligence, school safety, critical infrastructure protection, safety at America’s upcoming major events, information sharing best practices, as well as post-incident coordination and victim support.

The GHSAC heard from former Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta about the evolving threat landscape, homeland security leadership, and the importance of encouraging young people to get involved in public service. Participants also met with representatives from the Department of Homeland Security, Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Center for Homeland Defense and Security.
