On Thursday, October 24th, the National Governors Association (NGA) hosted its monthly briefing for the Criminal Justice Policy Advisors (CJPA) network. The briefing discussed challenges and best practices for building and supporting criminal justice data systems. This conversation was a continuation of the discussions around criminal justice data that occurred at the 2024 Institute for State Criminal Justice and Public Safety Executives.
The briefing featured a presentation by the Council of State Governments Justice Center, with remarks from Laura van der Lugt, Amir Chapel, and Ruth Coffman. Their presentation included a discussion of the tools and resources available to states looking to develop an effective data system for processing criminal justice or public safety data. The briefing also featured a discussion of strategies and best practices for acquiring or analyzing necessary data and how that can inform policy decisions in a Governor’s Office.
NGA holds monthly briefings for Governors’ Criminal Justice Policy Advisors. Please reach out to Maria Kearl (mkearl@nga.org) for additional information.
