Governors Applaud Passage of Bipartisan Water Resources and Economic Development Legislation

WASHINGTON – Today, the National Governors Association’s (NGA) Economic Development and Revitalization Task Force Co-Chairs, Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear and South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster, released the following statement after the House and Senate passed a legislative package to reauthorize the Water Resources Development Act and the Economic Development Administration.

“Across party lines and between different regions, Governors understand how a resilient water infrastructure system and a strategic national economic development policy are critical to state, territorial, and local economies.

“The Water Resources Development Act (WRDA) is biennial legislation that authorizes the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, which is vital for maintaining our waterways and ports, as well as guaranteeing access to clean and safe drinking water.

“The U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA) is important to Governors because it serves as a catalyst in supporting states and territories achieve long-term economic growth by creating jobs and stimulating the economy in communities that need the most help.

“We applaud the House and Senate for agreeing to bipartisan legislation for WRDA and EDA that strengthens American competitiveness and continues to position the U.S. as a global leader, and we urge the President to swiftly sign the measure into law.”
