111th Annual National Governors Association Winter Meeting Kicks Off in Washington
Nearly all of the nation’s governors are joining more than 1,500 guests, including leaders from business, the nonprofit sector and governments around the world, for the National Governors Association’s 111th annual Winter Meeting, which runs from today through Monday.
Jamie Dimon, who leads the largest U.S. bank as chairman and CEO of JPMorgan Chase & Co., and former presidential advisor Van Jones, who now hosts an eponymous public-affairs program on CNN, are among the guests scheduled to address governors. Lisa Gevelber, who leads Grow with Google, the tech company’s economic opportunity initiative focused on workforce development, small business growth and entrepreneurship, will host a conversation on Google’s approach to digital skills training and how governors can harness new opportunities created by technology to equip their states and workforces to thrive in today’s changing economy.
Governors of states and territories, including many of the 22 who have taken office since last November’s midterm elections, will lead and participate in discussions on topics such as child welfare, resiliency against disaster, education reform, entrepreneurship and more.
Held at the Marriott Marquis in downtown Washington, the Winter Meeting is one of the two marquee annual convenings of the National Governors Association. NGA’s Summer Meeting is scheduled for July in Salt Lake City.
The schedule of events, which includes sessions that are both open and closed to media, can be found here. Please note that media can attend only sessions marked as open to all attendees. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring its fourth annual Invest in America summit with several governors on Monday, Feb. 25. Credentialing for that event is separate from that for the Winter Meeting. More information on the Chamber event can be found here.
Although the registration deadline for the Winter Meeting has closed, the NGA is accepting a limited number of media registrants at the door. If you have not already registered, please bring a valid, government-issued ID and current press credential with your photo. Please note that the NGA is not scheduling or facilitating interviews with individual governors.
The NGA is pleased to welcome registered media guests on Friday, Feb. 22, from 6 to 8 p.m. on the 10th Floor Terrace of the Marriott Marquis for a reception.
