Today, National Governors Association Chairman Governor Asa Hutchinson of Arkansas and Vice Chairman Governor Phil Murphy of New Jersey sent a letter to Secretary Janet Yellen requesting that the U.S. Department of Treasury immediately distribute the remaining tranche of Coronavirus State and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds (CSLFRF) that were included in the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) and clarify that all eligible governments in receipt of past funding have qualified for obligation.
“On behalf of the nation’s Governors, we request that the U.S. Department of Treasury immediately distribute the remaining tranche of Coronavirus State and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds (CSLFRF) that were included in the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) and clarify that all eligible governments in receipt of past funding have qualified for obligation.
“Since enactment of ARPA, we have been working collaboratively with the White House and the U.S. Department of Treasury to implement the $350 billion provided under the law.
However, as calls for a recission of these vital resources continue, we urge the Department to expedite the deployment of these funds so they can provide the needed fiscal relief that Congress intended.
America’s state, territory, and local governments have been engaged in our nation’s response to COVID-19 since the earliest days; and providing these governments with the full distribution of these financial resources, along with regulatory clarity, is the surest way to see that our nation’s preparedness and responsivity continues.”
