SALT LAKE CITY – The nation’s Governors met with King Abdullah II of Jordan on Friday, July 12. King Abdullah attended the National Governors Association (NGA) Summer Meeting in Salt Lake City, holding a wide-ranging conversation in a meeting with NGA Chair Colorado Governor Jared Polis, NGA Vice Chair Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt and other Governors.
“Jordan is a vital ally and key negotiator in the Middle East,” said Governor Polis. “Governors appreciated the opportunity to talk with King Abdullah about his efforts to secure an agreement that brings Israeli hostages home, brings relief to innocent Palestinian civilians, and sets us on a path toward a peaceful, two-state solution. We also discussed the Colorado National Guard’s Strategic Partnership with the Kingdom of Jordan. Since 2004, we have conducted military exercises together and engaged in exchange programs, and we had a good conversation about our coordination in facing common threats.”
“Unrest in the Middle East is one of the most pressing issues we face today,” said Governor Stitt. “We need reliable partners there to ensure safety for the U.S. and our allies. Jordan has been a steadfast ally in standing up to terrorism. King Abdullah shared valuable information about strategies to combat the extremism that threatens both our nations and the rest of the world. I’m thankful for the opportunity for America’s governors to hear from him.”
