Governors Tell Congress to Immediately Fund CHIP, Community Health Centers

In a letter to congressional leadership, Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker and Oregon Gov. Kate Brown, who head the National Governors Association (NGA) Health and Human Services Committee, urged Congress to reach an agreement by the end of the year so that the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) and Community Health Center Fund are both fully funded.

“The expiration will result in three states and four territories losing all federal CHIP support in December,” the letter said. “Absent congressional action, states will be forced to take steps including the notification of thousands of families of the loss of CHIP health care coverage.”
