Governors to Senate: Both Parties Should Cooperate on Nominations

WASHINGTON—The National Governors Association (NGA) today released the following statement on the confirmations of the President’s executive nominees by the Senate:

“The nation’s governors rely on a strong, cooperative relationship with the federal government to advance policy, solve problems and work together on the numerous state-federal partnership programs.

Governors also have great respect for the role of the Senate in confirming nominees to federal agencies. As such, we are encouraged by a possible agreement between Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) to advance noncontroversial nominees, which will allow governors to work more constructively with the Administration.

A more cooperative Senate working to fill the dozens of remaining nominations is not only good for Congress and the Administration, but states and the American people we all serve.”
