Incoming National Governors Association (NGA) Chair Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval today announced that Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, will be joining the nation’s governors at their Summer Meeting in Providence, Rhode Island, July 13-15, 2017.
“Elon Musk has a vision of a connected world, where innovation and technology take center stage,” Gov. Sandoval said. “In Nevada, we share this vision and are proud to be home to the Tesla Gigafactory. By 2018, the gigafactory will reach full capacity to produce more lithium ion batteries annually than were produced worldwide in 2013 supporting the further electrification and modernization of the transportation sector.”
“I’m honored to speak with the nation’s governors and highlight the important work Gov. Sandoval is doing in Nevada and with the National Governors Association,” Musk said.
Musk will be part of a conversation on emerging technologies and their effects on the energy and transportation sectors that are changing our everyday way of life. At the same session, Gov. Sandoval will unveil his 2017-18 chair’s initiative, Ahead of the Curve: Innovation Governors.
“The topic I have chosen for my NGA chair’s initiative will explore recent advancements in technology and bring to the forefront conversations taking place across the country on new ideas and industries that will soon affect every aspect of citizens’ lives and states’ economies,” Gov. Sandoval said. “I am thrilled to announce that over the next year, we will highlight these innovative technologies and examine how governors and those we govern can stay one step ahead in this rapidly changing world.”
Digital and advanced technologies are transforming Americans’ way of life and altering the ways businesses and industries operate. Governors are looking for fresh ideas on how to take proactive measures, form partnerships and enact policies that can foster new technologies and tackle the challenges these technologies sometimes present. Musk will lend his perspective on ways governors can innovate in today’s disruptive world.
“From how we heat and cool our buildings to the cars we drive—or those that drive themselves—we are witnessing what some have declared the ‘fourth Industrial Revolution,’” Gov. Sandoval said.
Ahead of the Curve: Innovation Governors will launch at the closing session of the 2017 NGA Summer Meeting on Saturday, July 15, at 2 p.m. ET.
