WASHNGTON—Today the National Governors Association (NGA) is announcing a new partnership with the World Economic Forum Centre for the Fourth Industrial Revolution (the Centre) to identify and implement policies promoting technological innovation. NGA’s technology policy office, NGA Future, will work with the Centre to host policymaker workshops on emerging innovations at the 2018 NGA Summer Meeting and in the fall at the Centre’s San Francisco headquarters. These workshops will create awareness about new technologies and identify relevant policy actions at the state level.
NGA is very excited about the new opportunities sparked by this collaboration. “This new partnership will provide governors and key staff with expert advice on the best ways for states to prepare for future innovation,” said Scott Pattison, NGA CEO and Executive Director.
“The World Economic Forum’s work through the Centre is perfectly aligned with the goals of my Chairman’s Initiative, Ahead of the Curve: Innovation Governors,” said Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval, Chairman of the National Governors Association. “I am certain that the Centre’s partnership with the NGA will prove to be of incredible benefit to both organizations as we all look toward the future of technology policy.”
The partnership between NGA and the Centre recognizes the rapid growth of technological advancement and affirms the critical role of states in facilitating innovation in the coming years. Both organizations anticipate a fruitful relationship, bringing together policymakers and scientific experts to produce effective regulatory frameworks for future technologies.
“The National Governors Association is the first organization of subnational governments to partner with the Centre,” said Murat Sönmez, Head of the World Economic Forum Centre for the Fourth Industrial Revolution Network. “We are looking forward to working with the association.”
This partnership is just the latest of several NGA initiatives designed to prepare governors for future innovations in everything from artificial intelligence to self-driving cars. Learn more about NGA Future and the World Economic Forum.
