The NGA Center for Best Practices (NGA Center), in partnership with Third Sector Capital Partners (Third Sector), has launched the Policy Academy to Strengthen SNAP Employment & Training (SNAP E&T) Delivery. From July 2024 – February 2025, the NGA Center and Third Sector will support state teams from Idaho, Indiana, Minnesota, and North Carolina as they seek to enact policy and programmatic changes to strengthen SNAP E&T delivery.
Governors are still confronting a tight labor market and recognize that individuals on the sidelines of the workforce often face barriers to employment. SNAP E&T aims to help participants gain skills, training, and work experience that leads to gainful employment and economic self-sufficiency. Governors recognize the need to use all workforce development tools at their disposal, including SNAP E&T, to provide career opportunities to residents and a skilled workforce to employers.
Over the course of the eight-month project period, states in the Policy Academy will:
- receive customized technical assistance from the NGA Center and Third Sector to advance project goals;
- participate in a virtual kickoff and culminating meeting;
- attend bimonthly webinars and peer learning calls; and
- develop and begin executing an action plan to strengthen SNAP E&T.
