On Thursday, June 27th, the National Governors Association (NGA) hosted its monthly briefing for the Criminal Justice Policy Advisors (CJPA) network. The briefing discussed policy considerations and strategies for supporting problem solving and specialty courts.
The briefing featured remarks from Michelle Cern and Michelle O’Brien, Principal Court Management Consultants with the National Center for State Courts (NCSC). The briefing included a discussion of how the NCSC supports states with the development and maintenance of treatment court systems, strategies for engaging local stakeholders, and lessons learned when developing a treatment court program. The briefing concluded with a discussion of how treatment courts can collaborate with community partners to address the needs of high-risk individuals interacting with the justice system.
